Medical Assistant

POSITION SUMMARY

The Medical Assistant is vital to the overall functioning of outpatient medical/medication services. Maintains a smooth and timely flow of the member through the clinic while reassuring and welcoming the member. The MA works cooperatively in a team model.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Assist and complete prior authorizations.
  • Review member chart for updated insurance authorizations, consent for treatment, medication consents, laboratory studies, correspondence and special studies.
  • Greet and escort members through all aspects of medical clinic.
  • Work professionally with children, adolescents, and adults of all ages.
  • Obtain vital signs and record information into the EMR.
  • Conduct lab and point of care testing and follow up with results.
  • Use of recovery-oriented, person-first language in all interactions

GENERAL EXPECTATIONS

  • Provide high quality customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Must work well under pressure, meeting multiple and sometimes conflicting deadlines.
  • Demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors.
  • Participate in Quality Improvement and Performance Improvement Processes of the agency.
  • Complete all TGC required trainings on time.
  • Maintains a high level of professionalism while performing job functions.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and a willingness to learn.
  • This position is 100% onsite, in the state of Arizona.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • One of the following:
    • Completion of an AZ approved Medical Assistant program, OR 
    • Completion of an AZ approved Nursing Assistant Program; OR
    • Two years of experience as a Medical/Nursing Assistant.
  • At least 21 years of age or older.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card.

Preferred:

  • Certified AZ Medical Assistant.
  • Previous experience and knowledge working with clients receiving both psychiatric and medical treatment.
  • Basic knowledge of psychotropic medications.
  • Experience in medical records keeping.
  • Experience with basic lab tests and point of care tests.
  • Experience with insurance pre-authorizations.
