The Guidance Center is a not-for-profit Community Mental Health Center with locations serving Flagstaff, Williams, and surrounding Northern Arizona communities. We provide a full range of services, which include everything from general mental health counseling for everyday stressors, to our inpatient psychiatric hospital for acute psychiatric emergencies. We provide care to all ages, from birth and up. Our Birth-5 team specializes in infant development and bonding. Case managers, therapists, program supports and peer supports work together to provide individualized care to children, families and adults.


The Behavioral Health Specialist II is an integral part of the team for the Psychiatric Acute Care Unit and Crisis Stabilization Unit, providing member and staff safety and therapeutic interactions with members. The Behavioral Health Specialist assists with the daily operations of the unit meeting the needs of members.  The Behavioral Health Specialist is responsible for contributing to and creating a recovery based environment.


Provides support and assistance to meet member needs including helping with ADLS (activity of daily living) as needed.
Responds to psychiatric codes and intervenes pro-actively using de-escalation techniques (training provided by TGC) including the least restrictive interventions appropriate for the situation.
Use of recovery-oriented, person-first language in all interactions, with a strong understanding and ability to demonstrate excellence in customer service.
Conducts and documents group classes to promote skill building or education.
Completes all required paperwork in a timely and accurate manner.
Monitors and reports behavior of members to the treatment team.
Keeps unit safe, clean and comfortable for both members and staff.
Works with the unit for compliance of safety issues and infection control.
Works well under pressure, and able to work well with high acuity members and effectively de-escalate situation when needed.
Collect and report member vital signs, height, and weight and meal percentages.
Electronically document the status of each member every 15 minutes.
Ensure compliance and adequate services, additional job duties may be required to meet the needs of the program and/or department.
Completes all required training within the required time frames.
This position is categorized as essential staff.



Must be at least 21 years of age
High School Diploma or GED

Two years experience working in behavioral health, education, human services or caregiving; or other combination of education and experience, approved by HR

Possess or have the ability to obtain an Arizona Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card
Reliability and schedule flexibility
